Borrowed Rituals

A solo bedtime routine with Sanpellegrino and The Summer I Turned Pretty, and a toddler-led blessing inspired by sitcom theology.

And these were all to my face, so who knows what she calls me when I’m not there.

I have no tidy bow to tie this up with. I have no message. I have learned no lessons.

What if I took my ordinary little life and acted as if it were extraordinary? What if I wrote overly dramatic headlines about it?

If a moment of life is worth living, it seems it must also be worth remembering.

Something about doing this with my daughter now, here, this mix of old and new, makes it feel like a Moment.

If I would be kidnapped and replaced by a clone, my daughter would probably be the first one to be troubled by it.
